Football Skills - Rugby Tackling Clinic

With the rule changes being implemented from the top down in football, many teams are shifting their tackling into the rugby way. The Seahawks were the first pro team to implement these changes. The clinic will teach a more effective, safe way to tackle ball carriers.

820a Explain What “Tracking the Ball” means – seeing the ball and taking proper angles to make the tackle.
825a Drills
-One on one mirror drills
-Footwork to get in position in short areas
-Pursuit angle sprints
850a 7 on 7 with emphasis on closing the distance between ball carrier, and pursuit angles
910a Introduce the New Zealand Rugby Tackle
920a Rugby Tackle Drills
-One on one form in short space
-One on one form in playing space
-Finishing the tackle
950a Explain the “high- low” concept of group tackling in rugby/ football
955a High-low rugby tackling drills
